For a PWS, speaking (not avoiding) is often painful (smallest things can cause the stress usually) as it would require so much preparation and it may accompany with some degree of mental, emotional and physical tension and distress. Therefore speaking would require extra courage.
Therefore, our natural/automatic body response is to avoid as much as possible since not speaking and avoiding speaking situations is easier for the short-term obviously. On the other hand, avoidance'd be very painful in the long-term and also would have mental, emotional and physical tensions and fears that why the avoidance happened when it was really important. For instance, avoiding important phone calls, meetings, etc that affect our life quality and achievements.
Basically these avoidances can ruin our life by preventing or slowing down the progresses in our life.
Therefore, it's good to realize that whether we avoid or not avoid, we usually go through a pain and fear in different aspects of it.
So, what an Intellectual Person would do?
I think an intellectual person would take responsibility, controls and manages the pains and fears properly! He/she would also get help from those who can help.
By this I mean, I think nor avoidance neither not avoidance is too bad for us as long as we keep the balance between them!
I mean we take a balanced approach and allow ourselves to avoid sometimes if we'd really like to but not too many times since it may lower our confidence if it happens too much. It's important not to beat ourselves when this happens.
Taking the courage and providing 4-5 non-avoidance behaviour per day would be good for our health since it could be an opportunity to practice our speech techniques. E.g. Every day making calls that we may have avoided previously or making new ones. Of course it would require extra courage at first and overcoming the fears. When we repeat this every day and this becomes our habit, the pains and fears of both avoidance and not avoidance will be dramatically reduced and we become happier and more confident.
Remember what doesn't kill you, can make you stronger!
Feel the fear and do it anyway! Power is in Action!
As always, know well when you should speak and when you should just listen!
